"I purchased this to replace an ancient dial control that had finally stopped rotating. It was so simple to install that we wish we'd done it ages ago. All we had to do was remove the back plate, set the dip switch and slot the unit onto the back plate which previously connected the old timer. The instructions are easy to follow to set the times and so far it is working like a dream (it was just fitted this afternoon!) If you are a reluctant DIY'er then this is the product for you! My husband couldn't believe how easy this product was to install."
"bought this to replace a landis/staefa 2 channel programmer which had lost a channel after about 14 years service. It simply fitted onto the existing backplate, easy to program using the clear guides provided in box, great display on front panel . So I agree with other reviews on here and add my own recomendation."
"I bought this after reading the reviews, to replace an old single-channel programmer. The instructions indicated that it should be a direct replacement, but showed a 2-wire setup, and mine had 4 wires. After mapping the whole system, it did just plug in and go (after setting the dip-switches & doing a reset). There are wiring diagrams for different systems, and replacement of different models.
I've given 5 stars for reliability based on other Siemens products, but being new, I can't say for this particular item.
Programming was easy, and being able to boost heating or hot water for up to 3 hours is a great idea, so much better than the usual 1-hour boost. I tried the heating boost when the heating was programmed off, and it still gave the boost, so didn't need to set the program to a switched condition before doing the boost.
The backlight feature is a help tucked away in the airing cupboard - I would like to move it but that is another project!!
All in all, a lovely product which I would happily recommend based on my experience."
"Easy to fit, easy to program, good backlit display shows status eg "CH is OFF until 07:00." Best features: easy to set, easy to review the settings, has weekday/weekend programs or 7 different daily settings. Also has a "Holiday" setting so it just goes off until the day you specify - fantastic. Battery backup (Lithium battery included and clock already set when manufactured). Very good, I bought at £38, fantastic value! Easy to mount on wall with a backplate. NB double-insulated, so you could use 4-core mains cable instead of 5."
"It really was very easy to install as it just replaced the existing one on the same back plate. It is easy to program. I hardly needed the instructions. Much better than the previous one which was also Siemens."
"I bought this as replacement timeswitch for a two zone heating system in a church. Although the unit it replaced was wired differently there was a useful conversion chart enclosed which helped to identify which wire went where.
The menu system is easy to use and a nice feature is that the display shows the next on or off time for each circuit (CH or HW). This means that whoever is on duty can easily check when the next on/off time is due and when an override might be needed.
The automatic change from BST to GMT is also very useful, avoiding the need to visit the premises on the Saturday before the change.
It has better features than the unit it replaced (which was over 10 years ond) and the cost is lower too, as far as I can recall."
"Great little piece of kit, simply to attach to the old bracket. Followed the clear instructions very quickly and was up and running. My boiler is too old to be able to control the heating separately from the hot water but that is not the fault of the programmer. I found Screw-fix's web site very good indeed and their system works brilliantly with ordering online and then going to pick up all within a couple of hours. Very impressed with Screwfix well done the Eastbourne branch!"
"I dont know if there are better programmers out there but I'm no expert being a DIY user. This unit though ticks all the boxes for me.
Like another reviewer I bought this to replace my old mechanical unit which was becoming erratic, the clockwork dial having a mind of its own.
My old unit was a RWB2E and I specifically wanted a new digital unit that has the same backplate (industry standard) to avoid having to re-wire.
Turn off the power, loosen two screws and in 30 seconds the old unit was off the wall leaving the wired backplate behind.
Set the dipswitches on the new unit to weekday/weekend mode (choice is daily, weekday/weekend, and 7 day) and simply relocate on backplate and tighten 2 screws. Job done.
Switch power back on and follow relevant programming instructions. Factory default on the dipswitches is daily, so at this point you have to press the reset button on the front if you have changed the dipswitches, otherwise it remains in daily mode.
Amazed it displayed the correct time, date and year the minute it powered up, and programming the separate timings for CH and HW for both weekdays and weekends was a doddle.
"I have one of these in my home, and find it simple to use, controls heating exactly how I like it, and saves energy on the hot water too - generally half an hour in the morning and half in the evening gives adequate hot water for both of us, without the need for boosting.
The industry standard mounting frame, means it could also be used as a retro-fit to replace an older heating programmer without extensive disruption etc."
"Purchased as a direct replacement for a Landis & Gyr RWB2 programmer that had given up the ghost.
As the RWB29 uses the same industry standard backplate as the old RWB2, it was literally ‘plugged in’, programmed and up and running in less than 5 minutes, as the original connections were excellent, the backplate not needing replacement.
Sited in the airing cupboard, the backlit display is an excellent feature.
As usual with Screwfix, the price was excellent and it was in stock at my nearest store. Highly recommended."
"Easy to install. Easy to programme without having to read the instruction booklets. I`ve used Siemens heating controls for a few years now, and will always recommend them for either replacement units or new installations."
"Very easy to fit and excellent features. Good vaslue for money and for a branded product too. Lots of programme options and the customers comments were that it was simple to operate. The timer facility was self explanatory and the on off timing of the thermostat brought with it a range of different timing options, including programming for holidays and of course a winter and summer settings. The screwfix website was self explantory and detailed, with good pictures and even and installtion PDF to technically certain that the product was fit for the purpose intended for the customer."
"I replaced a RWB2 with this RWB29 which has the the same back plate. It really couldn't have been easier, but I wanted to read all the instructions before usage.
I set the dip switches to my desired 7 day settings. Double/Tripple checked the programmer wiring guide (just in case). I was up and running within 30-60 minutes after reading everything so I didn't kill myself.
