These T234X blades are superb
17 Oct 2014

" I recently had a nightmare experience with Bosch blade T101BRF, which very substantially wrecked a cut in 38mm kitchen laminate worktop, due to straying to an unbelievable extent. Turns out that particular blade is under-engineered (the steel is unjustifiably thin). That lesson nearly cost me a £100 replacement worktop, and I will never buy another Bosch T101BRF as long as I live.
In hoping to avoid a repeat of that disaster, I sought out an alternative blade type and, in spite of the T234X blades very aggressive appearance, it cuts so cleanly that it flies through 38mm laminate leaving a beautifully smooth edge, and (provided you don't rush the cut) chips barely half a millimetre (at most) from the laminate surface, which is completely safe and negligible, to all intents and purposes, and is an impressive result (NB: I never use pendulum action in laminate boards).
Both the T101BRF and the T234X are taper-ground (i.e. they get thinner towards the rear of the blade, than the thicker front cutting edge), but, on average, the T234X looks to be approx 0.3mm thicker than the T101BRF, and approx 2.5mm broader. It will come as no surprise then, if I tell you that the T234X is noticeably more rigid.
Neither of these blades have any set on the teeth, so, in spite of the tapered grind, neither are suitable for cutting curves.
If you wish to efficiently cut 2 x 4 timber, the T234X does an excellent job, and will actually surprise you with it's speed if you switch on the jigsaws pendulum function.
If you're a kitchen fitter and you need a blade that will very efficiently cut point-to-point IN A STRAIGHT LINE (between drill holes, for sink cut-outs, etc.), without damaging the laminate surface (assuming a sensible feed rate), and without straying in thick material, due to blade flex, then please give the T234X a try, as it is really superb - in fact, for straight lines in 38mm-50mm laminate worktops, I can think of no better blade on the market. It's that good. If you let the blade cut at its own pace, it glides through smoothly with almost no effort, and the results will speak for themselves.
I'd like to see a bi-metal version, but it seems HCS is currently the only option, regardless of brand. Still, the T234X cuts so efficiently that it doesn't appear to blunt as quickly as other blade types, and represents good value for money. These are half the price of the T101BRF and 10x as good...
I've seen similarly-toothed blades from other well known brands but have only tried the Bosch T234X. DeWalt's offering looks to be 100% identical. Makita's is similar. Saxton, Milwaukee & Reisser are other options. In all instances, they are HCS, so I prefer to keep buying Bosch branded T234X, as I know how they perform. "

Like A Knife Through Butter

" For such a ragged looking blade (think of the multiple rows of jagged teeth on a shark) this blade leaves a suprisingly clean cut. Used on 25mm MDF and various thicknesses of MDF, softwood, plywood, etc, this blade cut effortlessly. Don't waste your time using those cheapo blades that come with jigsaws. "
