"Item is as described , fits a circular hole for electrical accesories,ie smoke detectors , 12 volt smoke detectors , pendants etc , batten lampholders (wall).
good price and saves a lot of time as it allows you to fish a cable etc to lighting point then seal the hole and cable joint as per bs 7671.

Superb & they are NOT useless!

"These are designed for fitting into dry-lined (i.e. plasterboard) CEILINGS to accept ceiling roses and some types of pull-cord switch.
You will find that fitted for these purposes they are, as other reviewers say, very easy to fit, clean to use and they DO fit the accessories that they are designed for!
Shame there are not more stockists than just Screwfix, but at least Screwfix are continuing to do a good job by stocking them."

Misleading description
11 Jun 2012
By InnocentBystander
, Isle of Man
"I bought to use for quick fixing of smoke alarms that fit a standard box, being much easier to use a holesaw in the ceiling rather than cutting a square - only to find as others say that the pitch is wrong and only suited to certain things. It is not a standard "dry lining" box as listed!!
Please, Screwfix, at least state that it is for just certain accessories not imply everything that would fit a 'standard' box, and preferably give the dimensions, especially the pitch of the accessory mount screw holes."

"Pretty pointless if they cant take standard switches etc, even more pointless if screwfix do not supply accessories that do"

Switches won't fit the box
1 Jan 2010
By geoffsx
, Hampshire
"These boxes take seconds to fit, compared with the square type but the screw centres are about 55mm, whereas the standard light switch or aerial outlet has screw centres of 60mm. The box is, therefore, quite useless!"
