Smart electric control. but...

"These units look the part. Very smart in appearance. Easy to fit. Easy to programme.
However, there is a known design flaw that I wasn't aware of. They are suseptable to damage from power surges/spikes (which sort of makes it a bit expensive if they blow outside of their warrenty). Make sure there is some form of surge protection on the mains ring. I lost a couple of these units that were wired in the same ring circuit when an inductive load was used in another regular socket on the ring. They just went blank, no LED's alight, no power to the socket front. Screwfix were excellent in replacing them under warrenty but it is a pain having to remove them as it means turning the house power off again. Forums do say that the manufacturer could so easily fix the flaw with the introduction of a zener diode, but we consumers are still waiting...

Excellent while they work

"I have installed 10 sockets and various light switches - no problem with the light switches whatsoever nor with the sockets as long as they work.
However, I've had 2 sockets (each time the pair of them) completely blown within a few months, once after power came back on after a power cut (without anything plugged in)
and once after using a hover for 10mins (drawing 1700 watts, so well under the capacity rating).
I won't be installing any more...
