"Bought this to dim LED's in a bedroom, easy to install (deep box required though), works very easily and intuitively. Dims to a very low level, very pleased with the product. Can't rate the reliability as I have only had it 1 week."
"These Varilite dimmers are excellent value for money. I have fitted lots of them without any problems. This particular dimmer will not dim LED'S but Varilite do a version that will. I have also fitted those without any problems"
"Purchased with a remote control. My wife is disabled, this switch has made so much difference to hers/my comfort in the living room. Easy to fit, works well with an energy efficient lamp. Will be fitting one to bedroom soon. Great product, and great service from screwfix."
"Fitted in seconds, works ok with LEDs. Good range of brightness and when paired with the remote it is very convenient although the remote is a bit hit and miss hence no five starts. Unfortunately the remote option was the whole reason for the purchase for a mezzanine bedroom where the bed is a distance from the light switch."
"Easy to install and easy to operate. Light negative is that on occasion they can be turned on/off by the use of a TV remote, however the it very infrequent. Can be slightly temperamental when turning on/off as you have to be precise with the button. Generally good functionality when you're use to it."
"Nice item & I have also the Varilight remote to go with it. Bought this for my daughter's new flat where the lounge downlighters master switch/dimmer is behind the door. This unit does require a line of sight from the remote to the switch button eye so don't expect the remote to function where there is a wall or other obstruction between the switch/dimmer unit & the position you want to control it from."
"This remote is easy to fit and will work with a fairly shallow back box. The touch sensor is fine although not as sensitive as some, and the optional Varilight remote also works fine. The "soft-start" function does mean it takes a second before you realise the lights have responded.
It is also possible to programme a spare button on your TV remote to operate the dimmer. I tried this with our Humax STB remote, and not only did the "spare" button operate the dimmer, so did every other button. Trying the Sharp TV remote instead meant that now any button on either remote operated the lights! I eventually reprogrammed it with another remote which we don't use in that room (there is no other way of clearing the programming other than to overwrite it) - so if you want to dim remotely, buy the Varilight's own remote. Apparently, according to the (very good) tech support, the dimmer only looks at the first part of the remote's output so can't discriminate between the different buttons."
"Had MK previously for over 10 years finally failed. This is a cheap looking replacement. Time will tell on reliability. Build quality seems quite flimsy, poor quality feel to the finish. Infra red when programmed to spare button on tv remote has a mind of its own when other buttons are pressed. Noisey buzz when used in dimming mode."
"This was going to be an ideal dimmer for the bedroom. I had recently replaced my halagon gu10 bulbs for led replacements. Surface mounted led type 4watts 320 lumens. Unfortunately the dimmer doesn't provide enough resistance to turn them off. In the off position the lights the flicker at a very low level."
