does the job very well

"Forget what has been written about the strength of the plates - the plates work perfectly for the job intended. Yes you can bend them by hand - but you can bend a tow rope that'll pull a car.
Fact is they should be used for jointing timbers in same plane - just like the plates used for joining components of a roof truss. Which is what I used them for. In this instance they have the same cross sectional area as a 12mm bolt - 75 square millimeter - give or take.
what does affect their performance is what they are nailed with - use the proper nails - square twisted.
Job done

Inexpensive but tough

"Having ordered eight packs of these things before reading the previous review I became - somewhat concerned - about how suitable they would be for the job in hand, fixing parts of a cantilevered beam construction for a false floor. I needn't have worried; yes, you can bend the plates when they're single and unsecured - they're 1mm steel plate. Fix one either side of your timber joints though and they'll take a 25 stone man jumping up and down on the resulting construction without showing signs of stress or deformation.
Worth noting that the hole configuration on the plates I received isn't as illustrated - mine have 6 rows of 4 4mm holes rather than the 8 by 3 in the photo."

"I just purchased these & I will not get them again as you can easily bend them with one hand?I kept the set I have in the hope that once nailed on wood they will be strong enough.......if they use these to build houses, heaven help the owners?
On the plus side -they are galvanised.
