What a Solution!
26 Mar 2012
By CJPhill15

"I needed to replace some old imperial sized radiators and didn't want to go to all the hassle (and Expense) of getting pipes moved.
I thought, there must be others with this issue, so made a quick search on Screwfix and there they were.
Having purchased the radiators and these Extesion tails, I set about swapping the radiators.
I have to say I am a fairly acomlished DIYer, but not been exposed to a massive amout of plumbing, however these were so easy to use.
Recommended to anyone in this situation.
Performance and reliability wise, time will tell, I have used 3 of them and no leaks so far.

Rad tail extension
3 Mar 2012
By TheHouseDoctor
, West London
"I used these to fill the gap when replacing an imperial size radiator with a new metric sized one.
Saves a lot of work modifying the pipework and the extension is variable to suit the space available.
They are chrome plated so look quite neat and tidy.

Seems to work
18 May 2013
By SummersdaleDIY

"I had a different manufacturers one of these fail after 3 years so bought this one as a replacement. It fitted and has not leaked. The design with a single O ring does look a little flimsy but proof is that it does work. Having looked at this I do wonder if a piece of copper pipe which has been cut to size with a couple of brass olives and compression fittings may be a better solution but this was fast and without hassle."

Radiators ajustment made easy!
13 Nov 2011
By Kryten
, London
"Overall this is a great product if you need to fit a new valve to an existing radiator and need to adjust the distance between the valve and the rad in one easy operation because they are a different size. (Saves having to move the pipes) or if you are fitting a new rad that’s a little bit smaller than the last. Each gives you around 50mm so that's a 100mm if you fit one either end. My only long term concern is that there must be a rubber seal between the pipe and the nut that connects it to the rad, so what’s the life span of this? Therefore how can you rate RELIABILITY? They have only been fitted for a month! But have used similar products before and keep a set in stock in case I need one at short notice. PERFORMANCE? FEATURES? It’s a bit of chrome pipe with a couple of nuts! Not a racing car! It works and does the job."

Not the best ever valve tails
14 Dec 2012
By DADthePLUMB3R
, sheffield
"Having fitted three sets of these extension tails recently, I found I had problems with one of the sets. They wouldn't make a good seal from the extension pipe as the rubber seal is a bit flimsy. There are a lot more robust versions of this product on the market which are slightly more expensive but a lot more reliable and therefore better value for money in my opinion."

Use a rigid extension instead
11 Oct 2012
By Fizzykoi
, Biggleswade
"Great idea but be aware that the 'O' Ring seal on the extension is not very tight so they leak if there is any sideways pressure on the pipework. Even if you can get the pipework to mate perfectly (almost impossible with existing pipework), a knock with a hoover could make them leak.
I wish now that I hadn't fitted them and am replacing them with rigid extension tails - would have saved me a lot of time and money.

Compression tail - poor design
29 Oct 2013
By SDuv
, London SW
"I have to agree with several reviews that these tails are hardly fit for purpose. Any misalignment will cause a leak. As they are designed to be used with a replacement radiator (eg imperial to metric) its difficult to get perfect line up and side loads are likely. Better to use a short section of pipe and a couple of compression fittings. Having bought them, I decided not to fit them."

Idea good; poor in practise
24 Oct 2013
By Plums
, Kingston-upon-Thames
"The shaft needs to be aligned very accurately otherwise the o ring gets offset and the fitting leaks. This defeats the object of using the fitting because when you need the rad tail extension, chances are the rad will not be aligned accurately with the pipe, and this will cause leaks."

Not recommended
13 Aug 2013
By PeteDurg
, Brighton
"I used these tails as they were featured on the same page as the towel rail radiator I bought. I plumbed them in as recommended and used them at full extension. Both tails leaked, one at both thread and O-ring and the other only at the thread. I used ptfe tape on the threads and this helped with the one that leaked only on the thread. Didn't work for the other one. My plumber came to do some work on the central heating system and agreed that, in theory, they are a good idea. In practice, unless they are aligned perfectly and luck is on your side, they are not anywhere near as reliable as a standard radiator tail secured with a compression fitting. Sorry, Screwfix, I can't give a good review for this product."
