Best value decking oil
23 Apr 2013
By Jacktightastheycome

"Two 5 litre tins did 270 sq ft of new deck (one and a half coats) Goes on like white spirit and does not feel oily at first however as it dries it becomes more oily. Dried really quickly. Recommended for the money. Water beads off as described."

Very pleased!
7 Mar 2013
By Kaarrff

"Does what it says on the tin.
Went on very easily using a roller and 3" brush for edges and detail. Soaks in well so edges and screw holes covered. Applied on a sunny day (13 degrees), touch dry in 20 minutes and recoated after 2 hours. Revealed the grain and enhanced the colour of the Balau hardwood beautifully.
36 hours later and it is raining - the deck looks wonderful and with water repelled looks like a freshly waxed car so the comment about no oil in it shouldn't worry you.
Will review the reliability score in a year.

Nice finish & easy to apply
26 Oct 2011
By watchandwait

"I applied 2 coats of the oil to a new deck, choosing the clear product as I wanted the natural colour of the wood to show through. It was very easy to apply and has left a light sheen finish with the the colour and grain more pronounced.
So far I am very pleased with the product but have rated performance & reliability average,as it has only recently been applied and needs more time to test the products durability.

Initial Impression
5 Sep 2013
By Springfieldphoto

"I have just used the product and my initial impression is very good but until the product has been through a winter I could not rate it higher than 4 stars. Application is easy and the coverage was as expected. Hopefully the long term performance will be up to the same standard which would put the score up to 5 stars."

Good oil.
12 Jun 2013
By Iwilltryanythingonce

"Hi, I have treated 4 areas of decking with this product and it has been down for 2 weeks now.
It does seem to revitalise the wood and it certainly keeps the water from soaking into the wood.
My decking was really dry and weathered so I think that the wood sucked up a lot more oil than maybe some more regularly treated decks would have done, therefore I acheived nowhere near the coverage claimed on the tin but at this price it's not an issue.
I would advise a second coat as this makes all the difference to the look and finish of the decking.
A previous review of this product mentioned that there was not much in the way of actual oil in this product, but I have to say that when I was applying it it certainly smelt like timber oil and reminded me of linseed oil.
So there we are, just need to see how well it fares over time but so far so good.

It is White Sprit
7 May 2013
By timaua

"Ignore the ratings, they're neutral because I have to fill them in.
I just wanted to comment that the product looks like White Spirit because that's mostly what it is. I had a look at the Safety Data Sheet (download link on the page).
In the ingredients section it lists it as:
Naphtha (petroleum), hydrodesulfurized heavy; Low boiling point hydrogen treated naphtha
Common Name: White Spirit
Concentration: 83 - 90%
That's not to say it won't do the job, but it might not be what you think of as Decking Oil."

No Nonsense?
14 Jul 2011
By JBMann
, Manchester
"How this product can describe itself as decking "Oil" is beyond me! There is no oil content whatsoever, this is more like a water-seal product than anything else. On application it is thin and watery, and goes on without problems. However, it does not impart the richness of tone that one would normally associate with decking oil.
To be fair, water does bead up on the treated surfaces, but if you are looking for an oil-based product to both cosmetically enhance your decking and provide a degree of weatherproofing then this is most definitely NOT IT.
This product is certainly cheap and would probably suit cheap fence panels, etc., but I will never use it on another deck."
