"Having never worked on a lead water pipe before, I was a little wary if attempting the job. I must say that the coupling made the job quick and simple. It worked first time with no leaks. The product seems to be well made and very robust."

Leadlocks
26-Aug-2013

"I had a leaking underground lead water pipe, I was told that I would have to replace the pipe from meter to house which meant digging up the footpath, front fence, a tree and a concrete path, I found out about 'Leadlocks' and that Screwfix supplied them. I ordered and received them within 24 hours. The lead pipe was out of round so I thought that I may have a problem so I crudely trued it up as best I could. I cut out the part that was leaking, the 'Leadlocks' were very easy to fit and I bridged the gap with 15mm copper tube. To be on the safe side I slapped Boss white around the pipe joins.
I tightened all the joints, turned the water on and waited for any drips or seepage from the joints. Nothing!! Left the hole in the ground for a week just in case but it all remained perfectly dry!!
Well pleased, cost me £15 and saved me a fortune as well as major disruption.
Can thoroughly recommend the product and Screwfix service."

lead coupler

"I used this to connect to lead pipe entering house. I cut the lead at point where it looked most round and filed it a bit. The fat side of the coupler is for the lead and has a rubber O ring and compression fitting. I found that the pipe both sides of the coupling need to be clipped in place as any movement allows water seep past rubber o ring. Worked fine for me but tightened a lot to make sure it was gripping lead as lead is not very accurately round. Used a good bit of ptfe tape on the join too just to be sure it holds. All is all it has worked."

"Tried two of these and both fitted badly and leaked. Have since bought two different makes from two different plumbers merchants and both worked perfectly first time. I will not buy these from Screwfix again"
