"bought 28" and 23" versions of this box, great size carries all my woodwork tools including handsaws. and battery circular saw. its a robust box with good space and a 3/4 tote tray used it frequently as a step up and as a support for cutting wood and pipe. have bought 2 more for other tools."

best tool boxes

"Larger vesion of the fatmax 23" toolbox. I use the 23" toolboxes all the time, I have five of them and they have been in constant use for five/six years without any failures. They are the best toolboxes I have come across by far. Only poor feature is the shallow tray, flimsy and things fall out of it all the time. I usually leave them behind on the counter when I buy the toolbox! Bought this larger sized one as it will hold a standard length hand saw, but be careful to get the size you need, the 22 inch one is pretty heavy to carry about when full of tools. This size would be very heavy, for me, too heavy when full of ordinary hand tools- screwdrivers grips chisels plane etc. The V groove on the lid is useful for holding pipes, battens etc. when sawing or working on them. The hinges and catches work reliably and I have had no failures. The handle has come unclipped when dragging a heavy tool box from the back of the van but not a problem in ordinary use, has never let me down when carrying the box The flat tops mean they stack well. - Quite expensive unless you can buy when they are on offer."

Never ending space
10-Sep-2012
By

"Truly a good buy. Can`t go wrong with this. There could be two problems with it.
One is it could be too big and bulky from storage point of view! But the top tray is a bit of a let down because it is quite small and has no `organiser space` eg for loose nails etc.
It gets very heavy too because there is so much storage space in it!
Overall a fantastic product."

"I already have a fatmax box which has withstood many years of abuse and is in fact being transported with all my tools to australia as we write, i bought another as the price in oz is exorbitant the box is worth every penny and is robust as it comes......no regrets in buying but plenty for not leaving england for australia years ago"

"This toolbox has some very good points, namely excellent catches combined with a waterproof seal. The box is tough and can be stood on (I am 85kgs). It is sparse inside with only one tray. A good buy at £19.99p"

Great Toolbox
19-May-2013
By
, Sheffield
"The toolbox is very sturdy with strong hinges, catches and a strong handle, so I am confident that nothing will snap when I am carrying it. The tray doesn't cover the entire length of the toolbox. At first I thought this would be a disadvantage, but I like being able to reach some of my larger tools without having to remove the tray. It is a large toolbox, with lots of space, and I have pretty much filled mine. It weighs 22kg.
It's up to you to see if you can lift that with one arm and carry it by your side, and fortunately I can, with some mild discomfort in my obliques (at least now I know I need to do more core work ;))
The water seal is the reason for the 4 star rating. I haven't tested it, but I am confident that if it rains, or a car drives through a puddle when I am walking down the road, no water will damage my tools inside. The problem with the seal, which may be a problem specific to this particular one, is that it doesn't line up with the ridge on bottom part of the toolbox. In fact, it's actually 5mm larger on the top than the bottom. I resorted to measuring it after I couldn't close it and checked for something blocking it e.t.c.
I think that filling it has caused the base to narrow slightly, but after a few days of it being closed with the tools in it, it shuts on the first attempt now and the water seal lines up on the front, but not the back corners.
Overall a great toolbox, just be prepared to wiggle the seal into position the first few times you use it."

Overall a v.good product

"I bought this product a couple of years ago and use it every day as a tradesman. I would recommend this product and will probably buy another one when the time comes.
My one reservation is that the chamfered edges on the lid make it difficult to saw on. Stanley have sadly sacrificed style for practicality in this instance!

Good Box
24-Nov-2012
By
, Bolton
"Bought one of these boxes for the back of the car, where i keep most of my hand tools.
It just fits end on into a focus (mk2) saloon boot!
The box is of decent plastic, not like the cheaper brittle stuff in the cheaper stanley ranges. The clasps are tight and as secure as you'll even need.
The only drawback is the tray inside only goes part way across, this means your screwdrivers etc on the top tray vibrate off and drop down into the bottom.
I paid £30 for this box when it was on offer."

bad tool box

"bought this box to replace a cheaper one, first one catch fell off and the other one now wont lock so have to carry it using end moulded handles, in 35 being a joiner its the worst box ever thinking about making a wooden one I had my last one 15 years not like the cheap nasty plastic rubbish Stanley seam to be producing now"
