excellent shaver socket

" MK Dual Voltage Shaver Socket 115/230V :
If you need to charge a toothbrush and electric razor as I do, make sure the charger socket is continuously rated, as this one is. The 20VA (20 W) transformer is fine for almost all toothbrushes and razors, and the continuous rateing is shown by both the razor and toothbrush symbols on the front. The socket only gets slightly warm during charging and there is no associated ac hum with it.. The LAP 2-gang 46 mm surface pattress box fits the socket OK. Incidentally some have asked why bother with the 115V outlet. It only costs extra pence as it is simple for the manufacturer to take off a 115v tap from the isolating transformer that is necessary for bathroom use.

" A nice unit and now the unit has a toothbrush symbol on the front as well, so no more charging outside the bathroom. Great product. "

Charges toothbrush now?

" Bought one of these a month ago. I found it has a toothbrush symbol on it. Maybe MK has redesigned socket to overcome the toothbrush charging problem other people have reported. So far had no problems with toothbrush charging.
Smart high quality product. So far very pleased.

" As usual MK offer the best on the market. A great item, solid in construction and good looking too.
I have fitted dozens of these over the years. "

Shaver Socket
1 Dec 2014

" Excellent smooth lines and no switch mean this product should remain far cleaner than the previous model MK socket this replaces.
Transformer module on back of socket is fractionally wider than old model, meaning back box has had to be altered (unused lugs hammered flush with side of box).
Overall, standard as expected from MK. "

MK Shaver socket
19 Sep 2013

" Bought as a replacement for a LAP unit that broke into lots of pieces when dropped onto a chipboard floor.
The quality of plastic appears much better than on the LAP unit.
The first MK unit had to be replaced when the shutters were found to be inoperable, the replacement has performed faultlessly.

Well designed shaver socket

" Looks good, works well, with the exception of the well known problem of overheating if a rechargeable toothbrush is left plugged in. Suggest recharge outside the bathroom, and take in with you. "

Poor Transformer
2 Apr 2010
By ElKilogram

" Unbeknown to me I thought all shaver sockets would take all appliances (shavers, toothbrushes etc). Since buying this and experiencing the front plate getting so hot I couldn't touch it, I realise this is not the case. If you are planning on plugging an electric toothbrush into this make sure it is well below the 20VA that the isolating transformer is rated for, otherwise take your toothbrush outside of the bathroom and plug directly into a socket, not impressed at all. Not Continuously rated
12 Sep 2010
By asmiler

" Fitted two of these units and both used with a 2VA Braun toothbrush chargers plugged in. Very hot in use. Both faceplates cracked within one month. MK should document that these units are not continuously rated in their tech. specs. As rechargeable toothbrushes are common these days, you have to ask why MK haven't solved this problem yet "

Of limited use
15 Apr 2009
By Ageingengineer

" This unit is not suitable for continuously charging devices such as a toothbrush because the isolating transformer gets hot and (I'm told by MK) that can cause the front plate to crack! That can happen even if the load is well within the 20VA rated by MK - so the rating is not continuous. So best to charge your devices outside the bathroom and save your money. My rating is for "normal" bathroom use. "
