"Great selection of different bit sizes and for the price. However, from experience, as soon as you start drilling metals (I've used them on steel and aluminium) the bits are becoming blunt before they've drilled one hole! (in 6mm mild steel plate)
Others have mentioned the benefits of keeping this bits organised, that's fine until the case is dropped and your smaller bits have jumped ship into other compartments.
Clearly this product is manufactured for quantity rather than quality. My recommendation, spend a bit more money and get a decent set of HSS bits"
"Ok, I wasn't expecting much for £40 and its a good job. As another review said this set is great for keeping your drill sizes organised but not much else. The drills havent been properly sharpened and when you look at a half drilled hole it looks more triangular than circular. Half the drills also appear to be slightly bent straight from the box. They haven't been properly hardened either, if you use them on mild steel they start screeching with agony after a second or two and are basically blunt straight away (including when using proper cutting fluid). The drills will also bend even with the slightest bit of missalignment when half way through a hole, this includes the larger sized ones as well. These may be ok for drilling wood or plastic but forget it if you are looking to make holes in anything tougher. My plan is to use up what is in the box (shouldn't take long) and replace them with decent HSS stuff. Sorry but I wouldn't recommend this product for metalworking."
"The case is the best part of this set. I am a full time handyman. The bits up to 4mm brake very very easily & they generally hold a edge for a very short period of time. If you are a occasional user then go for it but personally I would not buy again & will be sourcing better quality bits as having 1/2 a bit broken off in a pilot hole can be VERY irritating."
"These drill are not fit for purpose. Even when used I a pillar drill with the work piece clamped they snap with almost no pressure. The only good point is the box will be good to store my new Dormer drills in when they arrive."
"Thought you couldn't go too far wrong these days... Apparently you can. A lot of the drill bits aren't straight, and the 3mm bits all broke in no time, some didn't even manage a single hole before they broke. Can't remember the last time I broke any bits that are much smaller.
"You get what you pay for, and at this price you have not paid for HSS drills. They are OK in wood but they even struggle with aluminium and as other reviewers have noted, the small sizes are poorly ground and hardened and not straight.
So if you are planning on drilling mild steel, forget these drills unless you need a storage box for some better quality bits"
"Having read the other reviews on this product I wondered if my set was the same as everyone else's. Good points. Fairly hard steel holds the edge quite well. Drills from about 6mm up are usable. Bad points. Most of the smaller drills are ground so badly that they will not cut, virtually everyone needs regrinding. Most of these smaller drills are also bent, with the result that even after regrinding to get them to cut you end up with an over sized hole. Overall quality and performance extremely poor."
