A real time & money saver!
4 May 2015

" I'm in the middle of a bathroom refurbishment project and have been having trouble with minor leaks in the central heating pipes that will eventually connect to a new heated towel rail.
Unfortunately one of the minor leaks developed into a major one and I had to call out a plumber.
He managed to repair the major leak but pointed out a number of other minor leaks and weeps that still existed in the micro-bore manifolds and suggested that ultimately the whole lot might need to be cut out and replaced and this may be costly.
As I had already bought a can of Sentinel Rapid-Dose Leak Sealer from Screw-fix to use on what were previously just minor leaks and weeps (once the towel rail was installed), the plumber suggested I use it straight away to see if that would fix the problem and avoid any further costly plumbing work.
I followed the directions for dosing via the bleed valve of a radiator, which I found a lot easier than it seemed from reading the instructions (possibly because I also viewed a 'how to' video online as well!).
The only slight hiccup - as other reviewers have mentioned - is the spurting of a little sealer out of the the end of the dosing tube when the discharged can is unscrewed. Also, screwing the can onto the dosing tube in the first place can be a little awkward as you really need to have both aligned perfectly: I can now understand why some commented that you may need an extra pair of hands!
It does appear to take a little longer to discharge the entire can than the 30 seconds stated but even so, the whole operation only takes minutes and avoids the disruption of draining down the entire heating system.
24 hours later, it would seem all the minor leaks and weeps are gone! I will continue to check over the next few days but it would seem that - minor usage quibbles aside - this product not only works as advertised but has the potential to save you many times its cost in plumbing repairs and lost central heating efficiency, not to mention long-term water damage repairs from undetected leaks. Sentinel Rapid Dose CH Sealant

" Sentinel Rapid Dose Leak Sealer 400ml, supplied with a host of adapters to fit radiator bleed valves.
To fill system, you need to screw adaptor onto can, which can be a little awkward.
Be careful not to drop the small rubber plug. Although it's not actually required. Dropped mine, lost it, but still managed to complete fill with no mess.
Within 12 hours, I'm no longer losing pressure on heating system. So, all good.

Impressed
2 Sep 2014

" Very impressed with this. Very clear instructions and surprised by the little rubber bean in the small folded up paper which is designed to acts as a one-way valve in the fill tube. Just put it in via the circuit fill valve. Simple and easy.
Only just put in so dropped a star on reliability - too early to say but other review are good on this aspect.

Amazing fix and so simple too

" After removing a radiator for decorating, 1 solder joint developed a dipping leak. This product fixed it in minutes as opposed to stripping down the whole section of pipework. The pressure "dosing system" worked without a hitch, putting the product into a fully working and pressurised 9 rad combi based heating system. The clever no return valve and coupling adapter is a brilliant bit of design. Be careful to read all the instructions which are scattered around the tin and 2 sides of an enclosed paper. If you don't open and close valves in exactly the right order, the pressurised system will squirt at you ! The drip stopped soon after the system warmed up. Great product "

Leaking joints
25 Feb 2014
By Alwaysworking

" Bought this as I had some leaking joints and really didn't want to undo and drain the system. A bit fiddly and not too clear on how to use, removing the bleed valve and filling that way is messy as you pressurise the rad and when removing the pipe from the can it squirts out until you get the bleed valve back in, messy but is do-able. Fitted bleed valve within ten minutes drips had stop, easy and cheap. "

Simple

" I found this easier to use than leak sealers that use a cartridge and gun but it still suffers from the same problem in that when you disconnect you always get some of the gunk blow back out of the vent. Very messy and hard to clear up. It took 2 days after use to seal the system and there has been no problem since. "

"Absolutely no mess"?...Mmmm
30 Sep 2014
By Rebel65

" Ok, this is a clever way of delivering leak sealant to a pressurised system but don't take at face value the "absolutely no mess" or the Sentinel website video, which neatly misses out the inevitable messy oozing between detaching the tube and re-inserting the bleed valve. I was ready for that...but not for the fact that, although I gave it a good minute to discharge (30 secs recommended), the can was clearly not at all emptied when I'd finished. I would say there was a good 50 to 100ml left and this is almost impossible to contain in the pressurised can. I managed to grab a molegrip to stem the flow, re-insert the tube into the radiator and so get the last bit into the system...but this time I drained off a couple of pints to make it easier, and this is what I'd recommend to do in any case.
Otherwise, a day later, it seems to be working, pressure holding up, fingers crossed...
