The heat is on....

" Very smart looking, easy to understand and operate.
With the price of electronics measured in penny's these days, it would be good if this unit was a bit cheaper, although far cheaper than many of it's rivals "

Neat box
11 Feb 2013

" This is a neat box of tricks. Note that if (like me) you are replacing a previous controller unit for a heated towel rail like screwfix used to supply, that this one requires to be fitted in between the heating element and a fused spur, so you may need an additional back box.
Its *lowest* setting is 40% power delivery (increments from 40% to 100% power in 15% units) so here are some calculations of real usage, working below in case I got it wrong!;
600w heating element
40% of 600w = 240w
4.16hrs to use 1kw
24hrs usage = 5.76kw
86p per day @ 0.15p per kw
Running costs £315 per yr
250w heating element
40% of 250w = 100w
10hrs to use 1kw
24hrs usage = 2.4kw
36p per day @ 0.15p per kw
Running costs £131.40 per year
The above are based on 24/7 usage, so vary as appropriate. "

Great gadget for dry towels

By Sparky590

" This turned out to be just what we wanted in the family bathroom. You put it on the Eco setting when you first get up to put the kettle on, or after a shower, and it heats the towel rail to whatever temperature you set for half an hour, then reduces to second preset temp for an hour and a half. This is just right for warming the towels. Looks good, easy to use, efficient & easy to fit. "

Towel rail heater controller.
21 Aug 2013
By alsho

" This unit fills a need to control the power input of towel rails in order to keep electricity costs down.
A nice unit, but, the pcb style terminals are near the casing and are difficult to get stranded flexible cables into, such as the one to the towel rail..
Worth having though.

Fiddly but worth it.
5 Aug 2013
By Platypus

" I've fitted a number of these and they seem to be a great alternative to leaving the radiator element on all the time as many people seem to. Besides that being VERY uneconomical, the result of draining the system down with the element switched on is an instantly burnt out element. And at £40-80 for a new element that proved expensive for a customer of mine who lost 3 in one go!
They are reasonably easy to fit but the wiring points are dead fiddly and only take very short stripped core which means you need to be very careful to get the wires locked in tight. Not hard to do, just as I said, fiddly.
3 stars on reliabilty as I have replaced one of these recently that had only been in situ for a couple of years.
In my opinion its a bit pricey and could be better deisgned to use the space IN the back box rather than sticking out as an ugly carbunkle. "

Kudox Heating Controller

By Bannon

" Does what it said on the tin as they say but wiring it up was rather awkward. Single core cable rather than multi-ply would have been easier as the cable connections were very small and difficult to access. Big danger of losing those small screws when trying to get enough gap to connect push in the cables. "

Better than expected

" Had this wired up in five minutes. Yes the terminal block is a bit small and layout not logical but if you can read you will be okay! Five power settings for continuous use or eco boost to a higher setting before turning off. Looks smart with nice bright leds. Lowest setting is a bit high at 40% and my 350W towel rail is still a bit hotter than I would like for summer use. 20% setting option would have been ideal. Should still pay for itself within a few months though. Very happy with product and Screwfix click and collect service. "

Clever bit of kit
3 Oct 2011

" Looking for a way to reduce the heat output from your electric towel rail? or save a bit of money on electricity? You need one of these. Cleverly fits onto the back box for the flex outlet and gives far greater controlability of the output from a towel rail. I am using them to reduce heat output in the warmer summer months and it works brilliantly. The ECO function is useful too - only criticism being that the ECO function can't be programmed to keep cycling daily with a single press of the button - you need to press the button every time you want to run an ECO cycle. Other than that, to be recommended. "

Read the instructions!
14 Aug 2011

" This unit is a pre set for 2 hours only which is perfect so you will not forget to turn off if you go out.
The down side of this unit is there is no wiring diagram just written text. Make sure you "READ THE INSTRUCTIONS" At first glance it looks simple to wire up BUT the two Blue wires go in the same terminal. And the terminal is so small that 2 wires WILL NOT fit.
Despite that annoyance I still think it is a good bit of kit and looks great and I am very happy with it.

Not good enough
17 Aug 2011

" The contacts on this unit are impossible to wire up - looks like it's been designed by a radio engineer not for a plumbing control application.
I ended up contacting the manufacturer to discover that it's not necessary to try and stuff two wires into each of the neutral and earth terminals - the two left hand terminals marked Load can be used - check it out with the manufacturers helpline - they were very helpful

complete waste of time

" Installed the unit after checking manufacturers web site and instructions as the screrwfix description was vague. Instructions indicate that the unit will controll the current to the element thus allowing you to control the heat to suit the use and that you could program it in Eco mode to boost the heat then set back to a lower heat output for up to two hours. Wrong!! The controller switches off after two hours no matter what setting you have it on. When I challenged the manufacturer I was told that I had an old set of instructions. Old now appears to mean a week as it was purchased a week ago.
Do not buy as it defeats the object of a towel rail. "

Rubbish
10 Dec 2011

" Sadly this product (as per the first review) is no more than a Relay controlled by a timer. When you select say 40% power, it means it's on for 40% of the time. So this Relay is clicking in and out all the time - eventually the contacts (or it's mechanics) will just give up. For the money, I would have expected a TRIAC or other Semiconductor switching, but no - just a Relay contact, clicking in and out and in and out and... you get the drift. Unless you have very low expectations, AVOID! "

Kudox Wall Controller

" The full specificationj is not available prior to purchase.
The Unit is not a thermostatic controller in the usual sense, it is merely a preset timer which has to be reset after a maximum of 2 hours.
The wiring is very difficult to attach since it has such tiny terminals arranged in an illogical order
It is not a satisfactory product and I shall be looking for a refund "
