"I bought this unit as a replacement for a six foot high frequency fluorescent light fitted in a kitchen more than ten years ago which had recently failed (after about 40 000 switching cycles and 30 000 hours so I am not complaining). I had fitted the original myself but arthritis now prevents me from climbing ladders so I had it fitted by a qualified electrician. My experience of high frequency lighting does in fact go back to 1994 when I was Head of Science at a London School and had it fitted in a new science laboratory we were building.
An internet search threw up several suitable replacements (see also below) and Screwfix gave a very good price and best delivery and sale conditions for the one I judged to be the most suitable. I had dealt with Screwfix before without any problems so I placed an order and it came the next day as promised.
It was well packed and arrived in good condition. The instructions were clear and complete, and the electrician fitted it without any problems in less than an hour.
The cable entry hole and batten fixing screw locations were not in the same position as on the old one, nor would I have expected them to have been on a ten year old product by a different manufacturer, but this was not a problem.
Only after he had fitted the unit did I tell our electrician about the two critical reviews of this product, and he was amazed.
Had it been a replacement for a pendant light fitting with a ceiling rose and associated wiring, and a lathe and plaster rather than a ceiling board ceiling there might have been some difficulties, but these would have been common to all batten fluorescent light fittings and not just this particular product and this particular supplier, but our electrician did not think these would have presented unsurmountable problems.
The unit worked first time, and every time since. It is totally silent both at switch on and when running, with instant flicker-free full light output, and gives a very good light with a colour spectrum completely suitable for judging the colour of baked cakes and other foods, and no problems for children with photoscopic disorders who are affected by ordinary 50 Hz fluorescent lighting..
If you have a reason for wanting high frequency fluorescent lighting then this unit is very good indeed, but if you understand the difference and are still content with 50 Hz lighting then it is a complete waste of money - even we have bog standard 50 Hz fluorescent lighting in our cellar."

Review 2 for LAP High Frequency Standard Batten 1 x 70W 6ft (1800mm)
"Dont have a BESA cutout, so you cant hang it on a screw to fit, wire entry isnt in the middle, no good as a replacement. Terminals too small. Poor product, the 5ft are better at least the cable entry is in the middle. Very long winded to fit. as to reliability ?????"

Review 3 for LAP High Frequency Standard Batten 1 x 70W 6ft (1800mm)
"Fitted this in a customer's kitchen as a replacement for old fitting.
Difficult to fit as no keyhole slots apart from around centre (which coincide with the bit of ceiling usually destroyed by hamfisted installation/removal/replacement of ceiling roses & fittings)
Despite balancing a 6' fitting while trying to mark & then fix through small fidly holes (keyhole slots mean you can mark the ceiling then slide the fitting on and tighten the screws) I could forgive that if the thing hadn't failed within three months.
This resulted in a call back to diagnose the problem (the fitting had just stopped working), a trip back to Screwfix for a replacement, and then another trip back to return the faulty fitting for a credit.
So I had an irritable customer to pacify, used up about 2.5 hours of my time sorting the problem, and actually lost money on the whole thing.
