Competent Person required

" The advert for this product is a little misleading.
Technically you do not need an engineer to commission a fire extinguisher, however you must be a competent person. So assuming you are competent as listed below you can carry out the work. If not then you may be liable if the work is not to standard.
The British Standard states:
A competent person- Person with the qualifications, training and experience, with access to the relevant tools, equipment and information, manuals and knowledge of any special procedures recommended by the manufacturer of an extinguisher to carry out the relevant maintenance procedure.
HSE states:
A competent person is someone who has sufficient training and experience or knowledge and other qualities that allow them to assist you properly. The level of competence required will depend on the complexity of the situation and the particular help you need.

Beware

" Please be aware that the label states that the inspection/service has been completed by a competent person, if you do not know what to look for you could certify a dangerous extinguisher, for example on a Co2 extinguisher unit if the horn is not fitted it is a missile.
Have them serviced professionally or face the possible consequences.
