excellent product

" Like all fixings, there is a learning curve. Once mastered, they are exceptionally strong, quick, and removable asnd reuseable (a few times)Hole needs to be a bit deeper. Drll size/technique needs trial on a sample, as these may vary with concrete density. You need a powerful cordless driver on slow speed for best results. The flanged hex head types are best for fixing thinnish items like trunking, but you need a 6 point (not 12 point) socket to take the strain. I am a retired engineer with loads of experience! "

Missed the Point
29 Mar 2012

" I am writing this to balance a couple of previous reviewers negative comments.
These fixings aren't intended to be cheaper than a screw and plug, but they are much stronger.
They also allow the screw to be drilled through the fixing and fitted in place.
For a Ø6mm screw drill a Ø5mm hole, which must be deeper than the screw, clean the hole and use a decent cordless to drive the screw.
They are Ideal for fixing metal brackets to masonry, where strength is a requirement.
I use these at home as a DIYer and professionally specify them as a Structural Engineer.

Reliable, robust and works!
11 Dec 2011
By chasd

" This screw works in brick and block like a dream - no pre-plugging and lots of grip.
Also, these are robust screws, unlike the cheaper alternative I bought the day before (3 of 4 twisted off, even in lightweight block. Screwfix, bless 'em, refunded my money no problem).
The Tapcon screws aren't the cheapest, but they use a standard drill bit size for the pilot hole and didn't twist off (so far) - well worth the money! "

Save's time not having to use wall plugs
i used them to fit battening to a brick wall before fitting insulation then plasterboard
be careful not to over tighten as they will chew the brick up! "

" Bought these to fix our stables to concrete and the bricks, drilled pilot holes, put the screws in. Slight issue would be that you need a pretty good drill to drive them home, even with a decent sized pilot hole. Didnt get the driving kit to help, but a mains power drill/generator should be alright "
