Does what it says on the tin.

"I bought the RMaquestel s/s cylinder, I must be honest, on price alone. It has exceeded my expectations. 22mm. connectors and fittings, saves money, time and obviously less joints to leak ( I'm not a proffesional, just a handyman) When it was connected up i found i had to turn down the cylinder stat due to the exceptional insulation. With a 10 year guarantee and added efficiency I reckon I'm quids in, plus i saved on the intermediate connectors. Well happy!"

Very good alternative 2 copper
2 Jan 2012
By GasManSam

"Initial worries about quality of construction were all put at ease after unpacking from the large delivery box. Finish is very good and all connections are solid with simple 22mm compression fittings. A nice touch is the built in secondary hot water drawoff on the side meaning no concerns about essex flange fitment for pumped drawoffs.
Otherwise on the whole it's cheaper, easier to fit & has a faster heat recovery time than my old cylinder with a 10 year warrenty on workmanship (ie. welds) so will be using in customer's homes from now on!"

Excellent product

"This cylinder is very easy to fit thanks to the 22mm conex connections. Why can't all cylinders be made this way? One slight concern - there were no instructions so I wonder if there will be a problem with corrosion due to different metals in the same system. I intend to add an inhibitor as a precaution. Unable to comment on reliability as just fitted but no problems expected."

"The cylinder was good value for money. Insulation excellent. Easy to fit as used a combination of copper fittings and the plastic pipe and push on connections as old pipework hard to get at. Next day delivery - can't fault it."

Easy to fit tank
18 Jul 2011
By TimTigger

"This is a really great product. Went straight in with no fuss.
The 22mm connections make connection very simple as you don't need any special tank connectors.
Only extra it needs is an immersion heater (which must be of the correct type) or a blanking plug."

"Wish all cylinders were this easy to plumb in, came with all fittings except immersion.
No leaks at unions which can happen on the secondarys on copper cylinders as the fittings are already there."

Things to know
18 Jan 2014
By Chr15h
, nr Birmingham
"I replaced my old copper tank with this unit and thought i would share my experiences.
1/Always wash out the tank as there WILL be bits of foam inside. Mine had lots and you don't want these in your pipes!
2/This tank has 2 side and 1 top hot water connections (total 3, plus the heater exchange coil connections) so if you might need a blanking connection. The description on here and the manufactures site doesn't show you this.
3/ You will need a Incoloy Immersion Heater.
4/ The connection positions WILL be in a different position to your old tank, so don't expect a quick swap out. The British Standards are meant to make easy but it wasn't and all pipes needed adjustment.
Cant comment on reliability...yet. we will see in 10 years time :-)
Hopefully that will help you!"

Good tank but take care!
19 Dec 2013
By Technonotice

"This is a good tank, well made and initial impressions are that it's very efficient. However I had a couple of issues with it. Firstly when I looked inside the tank before fitting there were lots of large bits of insulation in the bottom - this was a real pain to get out, but if I hadn't have checked it would have been even worse as this stuff would have floated and blocked the hot water system - imagine how many extra hours that might have taken to fix! Secondly the immersion flange is weird with hardly any flat sealing surface and almost certainly would not seal with the usual washer, so you need to resort to lots of ptfe! Having the 22mm compression fittings is a real benefit - excellent in a restricted space"

Easy to install
20 Sep 2013
By thesotonengineer

"Fitting was easy with the connections all at the same heights/positions as the copper cylinder it replaced. The 22mm compression fittings extend further than the tap connectors on the old cylinder - this might be an issue if space is really tight. However it does mean that the compression nuts stand proud of the insulation so doing them up is easy, and you can cut off the old tap connectors and slide the pipes straight into the fittings without extending the pipes. The immersion heater flange is big enough for the sealing washer. The cylinder is well packaged. In operation the water heats effectively. Overall: a quality product I would recommend."

Great value for price
7 Jul 2013

"Chose this to replace old cylinder which developed a leak. Overall very pleased. All compression fittings included. Feed port to coil angled slightly upwards otherwise would have lined up nicely with existing pipework. Works well so far. Good to experience a rapidly heating up cylinder again. Would definitely recommend."

Great cylinder
5 Mar 2013
By jobz

"Cheaper than the copper equivalent and not needing any additional fittings as all outlets are terminated in a 22mm compression fitting. Has an integral shower outlet as well as standard hot water/expansion outlet. Paper work states it loses only 1.8kw over a 24hr period. The immersion fitting, if required, must be an Incaloy variant."

good tank - but
28 Nov 2011
By joefzd1

"I agree with all the comments made about this tank but be aware that some versions of it are designed for immersion heaters with an "O" ring seal. I did contact the manufacturer and they confirmed this.
You can fit ones with a fiber washer but the mating surface is only 2mm wide and it's easy to make a bad seal. I resorted to plenty of ptfe tape.

Good item, with caveats
23 Oct 2011
By Wrongplanet
, Surrey
"A good strong cylinder with user-friendly 22mm compression couplers.
However there are some points to be aware of.
If you are replacing an old cylinder with yellow insulation on a like-for-like basis, the increased thickness of modern insulation makes this cylinder a lot bulkier. Plus the connections extend clear of the insulation, making it even bigger. The result in my case was I could get cylinder in place but stood no chance of connecting it.
I had to return the 900x450mm one and get a 1050x400mm one from elsewhere. It's still tight though.
Neither Screwfix or RM Cylinders give the overall sizes.
A second point is the immersion heater boss (on the two I've seen) has no flange and the external diameter of the sealing face is smaller than the internal diameter of a normal immersion heater washer, so there's no chance of getting a seal. PTFE tape came to the rescue here.
RM Cylinders should either modify the boss or include a smaller i/d washer.
Finally, RM Cylinders say that an Incolloy-sheathed immersion heater should be fitted and preferably one with a stainless-steel thermostat pocket - perhaps Screwfix should carry these."

Poor reliability
22 Aug 2012
By nothappyatall

"Had our first RM Aquastel cylinder installed in March 2012 hoping to get a longer life from it than our previous copper cylinder. RM do offer a 10 year guarentee. The cylinder started leaking sometime during the following three months but the water was retained behind the insulation until it ruptured, the trapped water volume being enough to come through the ceiling below. RM later confirmed it was a failed weld. A replacement Aquastel cylinder was fitted in June and two months later, this also started leaking. RM have not had this last cylinder back yet to report on but a simple test on the cylinder in situ has shown that it is a failure of the cylinder and not any plumbing connections or the indirect heating coil."
