Perfect product

" Ideal tape for masking skirting boards.
Will continue to buy this product for future use.
The only negative I can think of, would be if left on a surface over night the paint softens the tape making it very is to rip/tear when removing.

The best emulsion masking tape
1 Apr 2015
By Destress

" I have tried many masking tapes over the years but this frogtape for me is by far the best when using emulsion leaving a sharp clean edge.
Im a decorator with yrs of experience and I can state that this tape is excellent when used correctly.
Do not leave it on till the paint dries read the instructions!
The seal is activated by the moisture from the emulsion.
I also use this tape for masking carpet when painting skirting with great success even with oil based paints as protection only, frogtape do an alternative for oil & stain if you want edging.

Great Product

" Im a decorator with 39yrs experience and I can categorically state that this tape is excellent BUT only when used correctly.
Do not leave it on till the paint dries then moan that it pulls off your emulsion. Two reasons this happens in the first place. Plaster not polished off and/or primer coat of emulsion far too heavy. Dont blame the tape!!!!
It is also useless for oil paints. Of course it will bleed. Read the instructions! The seal is activated by the moisture from the emulsion. There is now however a frogtape for gloss etc.
Make sure the edge is secure and dont flood it with emulsion and its stupid to run your roller over the tape thinking it wont seep. It will. Lightly apply the emulsion to the tape and brush away from the edge. Remove the tape as soon as you can and youll have a lovely sharp edge. "

Fit for Purpose!

By Fluter14

" Used this tape to protect a hardwood floor while painting the skirting boards. Absolutely no leakage under the tape to the boards and tape came away cleanly after 1 day.
Even very succesful when building in layers to protect awkward door post mouldings.
Standard masking tape is cheaper, but paint can leak; pay the higher price for peace of mind.

Horses for courses

" I don't touch the "normal" crepe masking for painting jobs, certainly not for anything previously painted - glass and worktops fine, painted surface no.
No tape is going to stick to a rough dirty surface, so preparation is all important - fine open mesh abrasive then a rub down with much underestimated solvent, plain meth's. If there are slight imperfections with the surface, paint will always bleed under the tape.
As for pulling the paint off, that's pure bad painting - a test for paint adhesion has always been to stick a bit of the rough masking tape onto the paint then yank it off - a good paint surface will not pull off.
I'm changing exclusively to water-based paints, often on top of old gloss solvent paint - same system, rub down, meth's then Zinsser Bull's-eye primer #from Screwfix#. Nothing wrong with this tape used properly. Decent masking tapes on the right surface gives a superior finish and saves hours in cleaning up

" It's masking tape for a nice clean finish which oil based paints do not bleed through, it is pricey but you don't spend time removing the bleed through paint afterwards. As other reviews have stated change the packaging and drop the price. "

Useful addition

" Always thought it unnecessary to use tape, my steady right arm will do. How wrong I was, with this tape you can paint quicker, not worry about going over the edge and load more paint onto the area.
Tape easy to use and when finished it peals off to give an excellent straight line.
Steady right arm now bined, use tape from now on.

Impressive but pricey

" First time using this tape. It's good stuff. It really works well in preventing paint bleed. It seems to stick to a variety of surfaces. I even used it to mark out car park markings and got minimal bleed on a very bumpty surface. Very impressive. The one thing you can't say is that the value for money is impressive. Maybe cheaper packaging would help keep the cost down. But I would still buy this product. "

Careful - Adhesion Issues
22 Jun 2012
By laurie4

" Used this to mask wood previously painted with a cured solvent based paint and the tape started peeling within hours - before being painted over.
Contacted UK distributor who was pretty unsympathetic, though it appears sunlight may have played a part(!)
Bottom line is this product is specially developed for use with water based emulsion only and although it says as much on the pack, this is not made clear by Screwfix.
So we have a highly specialised, highly priced product with extremely limited applications versus bog standard, do anything, inexpensive masking tape.....hmm, which one will I be buying in the future?
