Handy and good for the price
1 Dec 2009
By KLKillin
, Killin
"For the price it is ideal. Due to manufacturers slight variations in nut sizes you will still need shifters or other tools. I disagree with comments that it should be longer for more leverage as this would make it harder to use in tight spaces and in my view there should never be a need to tighten plumbing connections more that this spanner allows. If you need more force you aren't working with clean round pipes fittings and olives!"

"This spanner has saved me lots of aggro in those tight and nearly inaccessible areas, only problem is they can start to slip after a while but are cheap to replace and highly recommended . Ideal for the proffesional plumber."

"For 2 quid this spanner saves a lot of hassle searching through a tool box when you're working on compression fittings. I only do this kind of work occasionally and it's still worth getting, for plumbers, it's a must."

Borderline, does the job
21 Jan 2014
By davesailing
, Coventry
"As others have reviewed really, the only reason i brought it was because i needed to cut it in half to fit in a really tight space and didn't want to butcher a decent spanner.
That said it did the job, though the jaws are opening slightly now and the whole thing is too thin so it is difficult to work with.

Good for a tight spot.
19 Oct 2011
By happydavid
, Leeds
"I bought a pair of these spanners today for a specific job: tightening a stop end in a tight space under a bath to cure a leaking pipe.
The tool certainly did the job, and it would have been difficult to tighten the compression nut with other tools such as a regular wrench or slip grip pliers.
As others have said, it is certainly not a top quality tool. It is stamped, and so is much thinner than a normal spanner. This can cause it to slip off the nut too easily when you apply pressure. Also, the size was slightly too big for the compression nuts I was using. I have some sympathy for the manufacturer here though as there is some variation in size across the range of 15mm and 22mm nuts. I suppose they had to make a compromise.
Anyway, at the price it is a useful addition to your plumbing kit, and overall, pretty good value for money."

Didn't last long
21 Oct 2011

"Shouldn't be surprised as it's only made from pressed steel but this didn't last long - used on fewer than 10 compression nuts before the jaws splayed. Subsequently bought a slim adjustable wrench."

Not good

"Jaws are too wide, would easily round the corners of a tight nut, needlessly wide tolerance. May be useful in certain tight situations."

Cheap spanner
27 Feb 2009
By Faircomments

"Seems to have been stamped out of a steel plate. Spanner jaws not flat - had burrs due to inadequate stamping process, so needed to be filed. Material not thick enough, should be twice as thick, atleast."

Cheap and Nasty
9 Aug 2014
By Farmyard
, Dartford Kent
"Needed a compression spanner to tighten a nut in a restricted space where grips wouldn't work. Read the bad reviews and thought "what the heck" it's cheap so it didn't matter as long as it did the trick. Well as others found, the pressed steel opened up too easily, and started to slip, so resorted to hammering the faces back to size.
Lesson learnt, if you have no choice other than to use a spanner, spend another £5 and buy a decent one which you can use more than once!"

Not worth the money.
6 Aug 2013
By Muckypup
, Felixstowe
"I knew that the spanner size for compression fittings was not standard and took a risk with this spanner as I had to tighten a 15mm in-line valve in a very confined space, and wanted a cheap spanner that I could grind down to fit. However, the spanner was simply oversized for the compression fitting. The only consolation is that I didn't waste a lot of money."

Not the best.....
22 Nov 2012
By MGHeating

"Not the first tool you will reach for if you're working with 15/22 compression fittings. Very thin and prone to slip of the nuts....knuckles busted will happen..
On the positive side, I used mine to help level up my locals pool table, better than beer mats.
Seriously, give these a miss, unless you're into Mechano and Lego."
