"Bought this thermostat to replace a mains powered unit which has died! The old one was simply a switch which waited 10 sec after reaching temperature then switched off, this meant that the radiators were still hot and so the temperature in the house continued to rise, then when it cooled down there was another wait before the unit switched the boiler back on. This meant that the house was continually either too hot or too cold. This new Drayton unit is much more intelligent and controls the boiler so as to keep the house very close to the set temperature, which is much more efficient and and comfortable. The unit we were supplied also overstates the 'actual' temperature by 1 - 2 degree (checked with a calibrated thermometer) but as the other reviewer stated it's not a problem as I just set the required temperature a little higher. I dont' know about the battery life yet but so far I would highly recommend this product"
"Simple to fit on a two- or three- wire installation ("parking" terminals provided for neutral and earth). Very easy to operate, just one big knob to click round for temperature setting and a big button in the middle of the knob to set and activate setback temperature. LCD display is a bit small, and the "demand" icon is hard to see (no indicator light). Temperature display on mine overstates by 1-2 degrees C, and there's no way to adjust it, I just had to compensate by setting the preset temperature higher, but it does keep the temperature stable. NB when the batteries run down it won't switch on, so if you're planning a fortnight's winter break leaving the heating on, change the batteries first to be on the safe side."
"I bought this item to replace a similar one that was past it's sell by date. It is handy in as much that you can use it free standing and therefore you can you it in any room to control the temperature. I would definitely recommend screwfix and this item to my friends."
"A good replacement room stat for people who don't want all the features of a programmer-type stat. It is very easy to install and unlike some stats it can be used to control a motor on/motor off(momo) motorised valve, but equally it can also be used for spring return valves; because the stat is powered by battteries (supplied) there is no need for a neutral although a parking terminal is provided for neatness and safety. The stat is very easy to use and temperature can be controlled by means of the dial or two temperatures can be preset and alternatively selected by means of the large set button in the centre of the dial. The stat is very quiet in operation (no chattering relays) and appears to be very accurate with temperature control. In normal use the digital display shows the current room temperature so no need for a thermometer as well. Overall a very good basic stat with the accuracy of digital without all the complications of a programmer type room stat."
"Purchased this to replace our old Digistat 1. I can just about live with the tiny temperature screen and massive setting dial but the temperature is over 2 degrees out. Wish I had read the other reviews before buying this. When the wife realises just how inaccurate the temperature display is I can see me back in the shop buying an alternative product."
"Have had two of these since the central heating upgrade in 2011. The first failed because the temperature selection dial was utterly random... dial to one degree intervals NOT.... and even if the desired number was displayed it seemed to default to 16C or 23C after a while. Replaced under guarantee by plumber/electrician but this is only sustained by duck tape holding the battery cover in place to compensate for poorly aligned battery connections and insecure locking of battery holder. Poor design and function."
"First one didn't work, stuck on 22 degrees so house way too hot. Second still didn't programme in correctly despite numerous attempts but seems to work a bit despite various error leds. Battery holder very flimsy for this much money and very easy to miss the connections. Whole timing system of central heating systems seems stuck way back in the past and this is another outdated bit of tech."
"Wouldn't buy this if I knew you had to replace the batteries I have recently added this thermostat to my heating & within 3-4weeks batteries need replacing already.not good if you are away & come back to a cold house.make sure you replace the batteries if going away & keep a top up of heavy duty AA."
"This is not a wireless room thermostat so don't waste your time (like I did) making a trip to Screwfix for one. Also don't buy the Honeywell one that you will be offered when you get there and find out that this one isn't in stock because that one isn't wireless either."
