"If you require a higher specification model to the KGS 254 M (Green or Blue version) go for the Metabo KGS 254 PLUS.
This is a much more powerful machine, it is extremely precise and has far great cutting capacities with the added benefit of superb dust capture capabilities thanks to twin port extraction when connected up to a vacuum cleaner. A fantastic health and safety feature especially for those who are working in enclosed spaces / small workshops."
"So far, I have used this to cut bevels (not mitres) in MDF skirting so not terribly demanding but has done a great job nonetheless.
It's solid German engineering and cuts so cleanly, the 45 degree edge left in the wood cut my finger it was so sharp, no really!
The laser needs adjusting for bevels in wood of different dimensions but I imagine this is the same for any saw.
What the details don't say is that you get a 3 year parts and labour manufacturer's warranty as long as you register it inside 4 weeks. I only know this because I had to ask Graham at Metabo for a plastic part that clearly got broken in transport. The part was on the doormat FOC the next day! Try getting that service for an Evolution or Erbauer.
My only problem is that dust extraction was poor but I was using a domestic vac. Maybe it's better with a Henry or similar."
"It's a lowish-price, high-capacity DIY+ saw which does what it says well. The laser and trenching are useful for what I do, and you can cut fence posts.... but I am disappointed in the rumble in the slide bearings; it isn't very smooth, though the cuts are OK, better than I could do by hand easily! The fixed angle settings are nice and firm, but the saw is a bit too easy to push laterally (and hence not make really accurate mitres), but you soon learn to be careful. So my advice is: it's *very* good value, but maybe you'll end up wishing you'd spent more on something better!"
