Has small stainless screws
19 Mar 2012
By AndyT8
, Sussex
"Strangely the catalogue does not list what screws you get in this selection pack. So here goes:-
3.0 x 16mm (150) ___ 3.0 x 20mm (200)
3.5 x 20mm (100) ___ 4.0 x 25mm ( 80)
4.0 x 35mm ( 80) ____ 4.0 x 40mm ( 55)
4.0 x 45mm ( 30) ____ 4.0 x 50mm ( 15)
5.0 x 60mm ( 15) ____ 5.0 x 70mm ( 15)
So you can see you get a good number of some very small screws 3.0x16mm & 3.0x20mm & 3.5x20mm which you can't buy in single size packs from Screwfix. I wonder why Screwfix don't sell these small sizes in single size packs, and maybe Screwfix can answer this question ??
Then there are a good number of the slightly larger screws, and it finishes off with just a small number (15) of each the bigger size ranges.
Guessing the value of the three small ranges that you can't buy in single size packs the selection box is priced pro rata - no bulk savings, but you do get the storage box.
The plus points are you don't have to invest too much to get a range of stainless screws and its the only way to get those three very small sizes and you get hundreds of them."

best outdoor screws
4 Jan 2013
By DIYoldboy
, Newbury
"You have to work out what you want these screws to do! Yes I agree the stainless steel is soft, it is easy to destroy the head if the driver is not square and they can shear but once in place THEY DO NOT CORRODE!! We have become so used to just pushing a screw into wood without predrilling so either drill a clearance hole or push a Turbogold screw of the same size into the wood first to cut the thread.
I have used these screws for fencing and gates for years and would use no other!

Use good bits and some WD40

"I use them to make beach huts.
They can break or cam out but if you use a good bit (I use the Dewalt pz), the exact angle and some WD40 you'll fall in love with them.

Exterior Screw Perfection
26 Sep 2008
By fatman
, Ashford,Kent
"These Turboultra screws are simply the best I have ever used, They drive in most timber with ease and the single thread gives a high pullout, I will not use any other screws in the making of my garden furniture.
The pro-case system offers good value for money, and supplies a good range of useable sizes.

Turbo ultra a bit weak
12 Jun 2012
By mooncat

"These screws are OK the smaller sizes sheer off at the head with hardly any force at all. You need to pilot and countersink before screwing them into hardwood. The larger size Turbo Ultra are fine and can be put into softwood with an impact driver!"

Turbo Ultra Screws
1 Jun 2011
By RokApe
, St James SE
"Very good if you want corrosion-free screws for lightweight tasks - the stainless steel is soft and easily damaged. Pilot holes are essential in anything but soft wood. Countersinking ability is very poor (soft head) and it is easy to shear the head. For general use the turbo screws are a better and cheaper bet."

Bend me, sheer me . . .
3 Aug 2009
By BElectric
, Bristol
"Good exterior screws for corrosion resistance, but they're soft and have a tendency to bend if not piloted. As for self-countersinking . . . the heads sheer-off like clockwork at the mid-high torque settings required for self-countersinking. Save yourself plenty of aggro and countersink first!
Nice finish for exposed interior fixings though."

OK, but...
24 Jun 2009
By coolly

"I've used the gold and turbo-gold screws before with no problems. In comparison these screws are soft!
It may just be to properties of stainless steel? i don't know... but the heads are very easily rounded and I've snapped several screws (5%) whilst screwing into OSB. Very frustrating!

suspect quality
7 Feb 2009
By yano
, Taunton
"I thought i would buy a small selection box just to try, good job i did as i wasn't that impressed. The biggest fault being that the heads of the screw round off very easily sometimes
leaving half a screw in with no way to turn it other than pliers.
Whether the bigger selection boxes are of the same quality, I don't know, but one thing is certain, I will not be buying them again!!

not what I expected

"bought this set on offer hence the 3 stars for value (full price it would have been 1).
I have only used the 6x100 and the 5x70 and found they bend while screwing them into softwood, if the screwdriver bit slips a little the tops round off they are way too soft no where near as good as the turbogold screws which I have never had a problem with.

Not fit for purpose.
4 Jan 2013
By RokApe
, St James SE
"They may be stainless steel but they are also soft steel. I recommend a dip in grease before driving them in to reduce the stress on the head.
Pros: they don't corrode and, if you can get them in, they'll stay looking good.
Cons: they are far too soft for normal use so the heads snap off far too easily - cheesy is the word. It is essential to provide pilot holes for them."

"i used these screws for a roof , screwing though new softwood timbers through battens into rafters , i had them constantly sheering off even with torque set. forget removing them they never come out always sheer. i tried into hard wood for joining soft to hard again hopeless snapping all the time. gold seem much more reliable"

Serious Performance Issue
16 Jul 2012
By BigBri57
, Rotherham
"I bought the Turbo Ultra Trade Case on offer for a number of outdoor garden projects. I was expecting stainless steel screws to be extra strong ......what a mistake! The longer thinner shaft screws regularly snap off unless you pre drill the hole to reduce the torque required. The other more important failing is that using a drill driver the screw heads often strip if you meet the smallest resistance.
I have used Goldscrews and Quicksilver screws many times and found them very good but Turbo Ultra seem to be too soft for the job and have caused me nothing but trouble.
