Customer Reviews for DeWalt 5.5mm Extreme 2 HSS Drill Bit
"This is a very, very good bit for metal drilling of almost any kind.
The magic is in the tip, which not only ensures that the bit stays put without any need to use a centre punch, but also starts the hole much more quickly than using the full diameter alone. It's a bit like having an automatic pilot hole.
Drilling is fast and clean, which is a boon when using cordless drills. I haven't yet had to sharpen one, which might be tricky, but now seldom use any other HSS drill.
"Bought this bit to replace one that I had with a kit, thought I would go for a quality brand and was not dissapointed. Used this bit to drill through galvanised scaffold poles to attach pvc window frames for a greenhouse and it has been exceptional, cutting through the pipes with ease-as with any bit let it do the work and don't force it, would recommend"
"I'm a DIYer, so by no means am experiences with drill bits. What I can say is that compared to the 100 or so drillbits I have used, this drill is easily the best drill for drilling into wood.
To give you an idea, I tested this drill with the Hitachi 10.8v drill driver. The drill managed to cut into the piece of wood, by 2.5", within 2-3 seconds. The only reason why I stopped, was because I ran out of drill bit.
In summary, this drill bit cuts into wood, like a hot knife through butter, even when used with lower speed drills."
"I bought two of these to drill out quite a few spot welds on a steel cabinet. This bit really dose what the write up says. It did not require a center punch to stop it wandering and after about sixty welds had been drilled it was just like new. The second one remains in its wrapper although currently I am not sure when I will need to switch to it. The 'extreme' name seems justified for this product."
"A very good quility bit, but, to be picky............. the 'gold' coating is dull and not an obvious indicator that this is tool steel. And, it doesn't have HSS stamped on the shaft. The odd 'tip' makes it look more like a wood bit and I just know that, once it's in the workshop for a while, that's what it will end up being used for."
