"Having tried three different brands of "salt" to clear the ice from my outside stone stairs. The first was like table salt and mostly blew away . The second like road salt and stained them brown and the third was full of tiny white stone chips that I was still sweeping up well into Spring. This salt is by far the best, big chunky crystals that clear thick ice in minutes and leaves no residue at all. Dont know how good it is at softening water as it is not an issue here but it brilliant on ice and snow"
"Bought this a few months ago. Guess I didn't read the description properly as its "water softener" salt. With the recent snow fall, I tried it on the drive and it works incredibly well - I'd go as far as to say it's better than the usual rock salt."
"This is labelled for use in Water Softeners, however most softeners will be damaged by this as they have to use larger salt sizes such as "tablet" (the smaller size will clog the machine up)
I found this out after filling my machine to the top and then noticing a warning label on my machine, a search on the internet reveals this to be the case with most Water Softeners, screwfix should put a warning on its description of this product"
