"If you’re using the excellent John Guest Speedfit system, you need one of these. It gives a clean, square, burr-free cut, enabling the insert to fit squarely against the end of the pipe without fuss or drama. In hundreds of joints, I have never had a failure.
When trimming a pipe near to its end, it does not work so well since the pipe deforms before being cut. This small problem may be overcome by putting an insert into the pipe, ending just before the position of the cut, to give support. Alternatively, you could of course cut it the right length in the first place!
It looks expensive, but good tools are. It’s worth it for the frisson of pleasure you will feel when using this product – it feels and sounds good as another perfect slice is made – and it’s still a lot less expensive (and less embarrassing) than a flood.
Tell you what though - it feels slightly scary how the cutting aperture fits your finger perfectly!"
"A performance product that out shines the cheaper models by a mile! This tool is a must for Speedfit and please note other reviewer's comment about using a hacksaw on plastic pipe. You should NEVER under ANY circumstances use a hacksaw on plastic pipe!!!"
"Never ever use anything but the proper tool for the job when cutting PEX and PB pipe.
This cutter is really too expensive for what it is, and others are available for less money. However, they produce a straight, non-burred clean cut every time which is essential, if only for peace of mind when installing in out-of-the-way places you really don't want to revisit!
Using this I have never ever had a leak, so peace of mind outweighs the cost this time."
"Works very well. Gives a clean, straight cut, with a simple squeeze of the handles. Quite expensive for what it is, but it's far better than using a hacksaw, which always gives a rough edge, and runs the risk of a leaking joint."
