"A well engineered product with double rubber seals. Opens to give a fast flow for draining down pipework. Don't forget to unscrew the seal when soldering so that the rubber is not damaged from the heat."

"Always buy this one - the "Heavy" type A as it has a better seal design. The cheaper "Light" type B always leaks and you'll end up with more water coming out of the fitting than going down the hose!"

"FOR THE FEW PENCE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TYPE" A" AND "B" BUY THE TYPE "A" FAR SUPERIOR AS IT HAS THE EXTRA SEAL IT DOESN'T LEAK LIKE THE TYPE "B" WHEN DRAINING WATER OFF."

Need water to drain off cock?
16-Feb-2012
By
, West London
"Probably the best drain off cock in the world!
This heavy duty Type A drain off cock is robost and has a much better life and reliability than the cheaper Type B.
An extra seal on the spindle and a stronger sealing washer in comparison to Type B mean you can fit it and forget it for years without worrying over whether it will work when you eventually need to drain off water."

best drain cock

"the type A drain cock has a seal inside so when you loosen it to drain, water only comes out of the tap. the cheaper type B leaks from the top ( not ideal if your draining a c/h system with carpets!) don't forget to remove the top before soldering."

"These drain cocks have a higher flow rate than the previous type, so it's easier to get all the water out of the CH system. No probs soldering in (though I found it helps to put the seal back in before filling the system!) and they don't need painting."

Better quality drain cock
24-Oct-2014
By
, Essex
"Always buy this type of drain cock as you can be sure that it will work everytime so makes it worth the extra pence. Just a quick reminder to those who haven't used these fittings before - you need to remove the insert before soldering or it will melt the washer. Put it back in when it has cooled down and don't do it up too tight."

Drain cock A is not so good
19-Oct-2013
By
, Dundee
"These used to be ideal. However the last batch I bought no longer have an 'O' ring on the large knurled nut and will therefore leak like type B when draining. Maybe plenty of PTFE on the thread will work. Have not tested yet."
